What We Do
CARDIO
Any exercise that raises your heart rate. There are many options for cardio work outs but intensity is the key. It only counts if you elevate your HR into an aerobic zone (55-85% of your maximum heart rate). Mike with include a cardio aspect to suit your workout that is suited to you.
WEIGHTS
Weight training is a type of strength training exercise to build muscle strength using the force of gravity. Options include free weights, a machine circuit or just using body vs gravity excercises. Mike believes that all workouts must include weight training which can advance over time with ability.
CALISTHENICS
Exercises involving gross motor movements - running, standing, grasping, pushing, etc. - often performed rhythmically and generally without equipment. They are “body-weight training”. Vigorous calisthenics burn more calories than many cardio workouts due to more muscle engagement”. Mike makes good use of this technique.
MUSCLE STRETCH
Stretching improves muscle development, increases range of motion, reduces chance of an injury and provides a warm-up for your muscles. When muscles are more flexible, the body can perform activities with the correct form. It also helps to improve posture. Every program includes a stretching component.
ENDURANCE
FLEXIBILITY
Flexible joints require less energy to move through a greater range of motion. This decreases your overall risk of injury and increases physical performance as well. Mike is all about injury prevention and believes this is essential to a sound fitness program.
There is a distinction between cardiovascular and muscular endurance but both require muscular activity over extended. Some exercises, such as running, put a lot of stress on the body’s joints and hence need to be approached with more caution. Choosing the best muscular endurance exercises is often simpler than cardiovascular exercises.
NUTRITIONAL GUIDANCE
Along with exercise, Mike can offer nutritional advice for clients who want to lose or maintain their body weight. He can help you understand how to fuel your body with the proper nutrients.
IT’S A SOCIAL THING
Group exercise is fundamentally a social gathering of like-minded people with the common goals of becoming or staying healthy. One-on-one with Mike becomes a social event as well since he is interested in each of his clients on a personal basis. A friendly atmosphere is important! If it isn’t fun, clients won’t stay engaged.
